Conductors

Marieddy Rossetto was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1958 and is the Chorus Director of the Städtischer Musikverein since January 2001. She received her education in piano at the Conservatory in Santos as well as at the University of Brasilia, and studied conducting and choral conducting at the High Music School in Cologne. The education was completed by participation in various courses: at the International Master Class in Trier under Professor Schieri, at the Bach Academy in Stuttgart under Helmuth Rilling as well as at the European Music Festival in Stuttgart. Her artistic career includes apprenticeship and direction of various instrumental ensembles at the High Music School in Brasilia, as well as the participation as pianist for contemporary music and an occupation as the Commissioner of the National Arts Foundation (FUNARTS) for vocational training for teachers in Brazil. Marieddy Rossetto was chorus leader at the St. Marien in Cologne from 1983 to 1987, chorus leader at the University, the Chorus of the German School and the Chamber Chorus Collegium Musicum in Sao Paolo from 1988 to 1992. Since 1994 she has been Chorus Director for the Chorus of the Wuppertal Concert Society.

As choral repititeur Reinhard Kaufmann accompanies her. He studied in Cologne and has worked at various theatres as singing coach, training supervisor and conductor and was assistant at the Bayreuth Festival. Since 1992 he lectures the opera class at the Robert Schumann Music College in Düsseldorf.
In the 19th and up to the early 20th century, the artist direction of the Städtischer Musikverein was in the hands of the musical or general musical director or chief conductor for the City of Düsseldorf at that time.

Since the 1920s these people were assisted by a chorusmaster or chorus conductor.
